My Story

Vartika.png

My name is Vartika Satija, and I’m a Chartered Professional Accountant based in Calgary. I am a person with a zest for life. I was born in India and spent many years travelling before I moved to Hailfax, Nova Scotia to complete my Bachelor of Commerce with a major in accounting from Sobeys School of Business at Saint Mary’s University in 2008. After graduating, I pursued my CPA designation in Calgary, gaining extensive experience in Audit, Review and Tax Engagements for private and non-for-profit organizations.

I worked with companies and organizations from a variety of backgrounds including manufacturing, oil and gas, financial services, investment companies, real estate, healthcare, professional services and many more. My journey of obtaining my CPA was challenging; I failed exams multiple times and failed to secure placement at firms, which I believed would give me the experience to move forward. Through perseverance and support from my family and friends, I worked relentlessly to finally achieve my CPA designation in 2015. Today, I specialize in accounting for sole proprietors, start-ups, small to medium sized businesses and non-for-profit organizations.

Outside of accounting practice I have a rich, joyful life. For many years I have travelled the world, living in countries like India, Nigeria, Guatemala and Rwanda. Through my travels I developed a new perspective on life and desire to help others. Volunteer work has become a staple in having work-life balance for me. I currently volunteer with the Red Cross in their disaster management department, I volunteer as a big sister for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, I have volunteered as a part of team on many humanitarian initiatives within “The Art of Living” organization.

I spent two months in Guatemala at a small village in Rio Dulce teaching English at a school that provides education, nutrition, and health care for the vulnerable children of the remote and impoverished region of Rio Dulce. I am now one of board member as a treasurer for the Canadian Affiliate.  I whole heartily believe in giving back to my community in Calgary by being an active speaker in the business community and helping entrepreneurs be successful. Apart from extensive volunteer work, I take part in many activities such as being part of a Bollywood Dance performance group, practicing meditation and yoga, pursuing goals such as obtaining my open water diving certification and continuing to travel the world to expand my cultural knowledge.

My determination came from my journey of perseverance and desire to be independent. Being an entrepreneurial spirit, I strive to pay it forward by working within my community to help others develop themselves and their businesses. Eventually, I want to evolve my business to provide opportunities in places that are less fortunate in terms of receiving the education and training that help entrepreneurs grow and be successful. I am committed to aiding others achieve their goals by ensuring the best service and experience. I’m excited to meet you, learn about your company, and help you understand the bookkeeping and advising on accounting and tax needs for your business.
